Swansea Solidarity with GAZA 17th November 2012

Over a hundred concerned citizens of Swansea gathered in Castle Square on Saturday the 17th of November 2012 and 4 of them carried a child's coffin in a symbolic funeral march through the City Centre.
The march was a tribute to the 37 who had died under the Israeli military onslaught of the Gaza Strip - 7 of the dead were children under 5 years old.  Since yesterday that number has risen to 52 with over 250 injured. The hospital are already at breaking point and have almost run out of simple medical supplies such as bandages, yet the Israeli air-force and navy continue to pound the Gaza Strip.

Saturday, 17 November 2012

The Israelis are currently attacking the Gaza Strip by sea and air and have announced an imminent land assault, calling up 75,000 Israeli Reservists. The Gaza Strip has a population of almost 2 million people, 47% of these are under 15, but it has no Army,no Navy and no Air-force, while Israel is the 4th largest Military power in the World. Its small number of resistance fighters are armed only with home-made Qassam rockets and other small arms smuggled through the tunnels from Egypt. Unlike other war zones around the World, the people of Gaza have nowhere to flee to, have no means of escape, they are trapped. The groups Swansea Action for Palestine and Swansea Palestine Community Link will lead a symbolic Funeral procession from Castle Square at 2pm today, Saturday, through Swansea City Centre and will end with Palestinian speakers and supporters back at the Square where the names of the 7 children under 5 years who have been killed since Wednesday will be read out. Those taking part have been asked to wear black and to bring flowers. You will find regular updates on the Swansea Palestine Community Link FaceBook page.
